Liz Williams on the gentle art of self-defense, and when it's contraindicated.
via casacorona, Keith Ellison, the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, will be sworn in using the Koran.....the Koran that was Thomas Jefferson's personal copy.
One person unlikely to be swayed by the book's illustrious history is [Virgina Re. Virgil] Goode, who released a letter two weeks ago objecting to Ellison's use of the Koran. "I believe that the overwhelming majority of voters in my district would prefer the use of the Bible," the Virginia Republican told Fox News, and then went on to warn about what he regards as the dangers of Muslims immigrating to the United States and Muslims gaining elective office.
Perhaps Representative Goode should become acquainted with a famous passage from United States History:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
If anybody wants me, I'll be inside this bottle of Ravenswood. Thanks!
